Reality, Is it unique to everyone?
« on: April 27, 2015, 07:55:04 PM »

What makes each one of us unique, not only in the way we appear but also in the manner we think, act and relate to things? When we can just have our thumb imprints unique, imagine about the whole human construct.

At the core of our existence is something called Reality, considering our uniqueness it would make sense to assume each one' perception of Reality is also unique. In other words what we might hold as Truth is also unique.

I guess most of you are aware about Ravensburger puzzle, a kind of jig-saw puzzle. A beautiful picture is finely cut into a number of pieces and it is required to piece it together to form the picture. It is usually available in 100, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 pieces. Even if one is able to piece together a few ones, a decent picture is formed though it is not complete. Consider the Reality as a perfectly formed picture from infinite pieces of Ravensburger puzzle. Each one of us have formed a decent picture and possibly imagining that as the whole picture. Eventually we then expect others also to have the same picture as we have, where as the picture formed by them is mostly different and unique.

In our life, based on our experiences (environment we were brought up, education, relationships, success/failures...) we have developed our unique perception of Reality i.e. our decent picture. We use this perception of Reality in judging other' behaviour or actions and same is the case when other' relate to our behaviour as well. Well if you are wondering why your advice to others aren't working, now you have some idea!!!.

In a sense each one of us have pieced together a part of the Reality. It is important that we recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of every other individual on this planet. This, according to me, could probably result in better understanding & harmony in relationships, accept other' way of life, pave way for making our planet a better place to live and so on.

In Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), we refer this unique perception of Reality as MAP. This is one of the important block on which is NLP is built. Continue adding pieces and expand your picture (MAP). May be in a subsequent post, we can see how.

Cheers jAM
